Vitor Carvalho (CEO)
Vitor has a Master in Civil Engineering in structures, and a post-graduation in Steel and Composite Structures, both from the University of Coimbra (FCTUC).
Vitor acquired sound structural engineering skills while working in structural design offices and steelwork contractors. Before becoming a partner at VN2R, Vitor was leading the technical department of a renowned steelwork contractor in Portugal.
During his 10 years of experience, Vitor had the opportunity to be involved in several types of projects such as industrial steel buildings, concrete and steel-concrete composite buildings, steel and steel-concrete composite bridges (footbridges and road bridges).
Nuno has a Master in Civil Engineering in structures from the University of Porto (FEUP), and a post-graduation in Steel and Composite Structures from the University of Coimbra (FCTUC).
Nuno is a chartered member of the Institution of Portuguese Engineers and has over 15 years of experience in the structural and geotechnical design of buildings, transport infrastructures and industry projects using a variety of applicable codes.
His structural design work includes concrete, timber, masonry, steel and composite structures. His studies also include structural strengthening design, detailed dynamic analysis for machine supporting structures and seismic design, indirect foundations and soil retaining structures.
Nuno is highly experienced in concrete and PT concrete design and detailing.
Nuno is a proficient developer of software applications for structural and geotechnical design.
Partner/Digital Practice Manager
Rui Gavina is the Digital Practice Manager at VN2R. He leads the BIM business development and is responsible for the design and introduction of new and optimized approaches to the use of digital technologies. He is also the Structural BIM advisor of DiRoots, a BIM consultancy and digital technology company. Rui has previously collaborated in one of the first Portuguese structural engineering firms to use Revit and embrace BIM collaborative processes. He was also the BIM implementation leader in a renowned structural engineering design office.
Rui is an active community member in the digital built environment. He is the speaker manager of BILT Europe, one of the most well-recognized and respected events related to BIM and digital technologies in the world. Rui is one of the founders of the group ISEPBIM, a non-profitable BIM community related to the Polytechnic Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP-IPP), focused on the promotion and dissemination of BIM in Portugal and creating a closer engagement between the academic environment and the industry.
Rui received a Bachelor and Master degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP-IPP) and took a post-graduate degree in Computer-Aided Structural Design.
Rui is a proficient developer of software applications for digital processes within the built environment.
Ricardo Pimentel has an Integrated Master in Civil Engineering (MEng) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Steel and Composite Structures from the University of Coimbra (FCTUC). Currently, Ricardo provides consultancy mainly related to steel and composite structures to VN2R. Ricardo also works as a Manager at the Steel Construction Institute (SCI), UK.
Throughout his career, Ricardo developed skills in concept design, analysis, design and detailing of steel, composite, concrete and timber structures. He had the opportunity to be involved in projects such as industrial buildings, steel equipment, multi-story buildings, sports facilities with long-span roofs, pedestrian bridges, road bridges and equipment for offshore operations.
Ricardo is highly experienced in steel and steel-concrete composite structures and a proficient developer of software applications for structural analysis and design. Other topics of interest include steel-timber hybrid structures, low-carbon solutions and sustainable practices within the built environment, seismic design and structural stability to name a few.
Ricardo is a chartered engineer by the Institution of Portuguese Engineers, ICE - Institution of Civil Engineers (CEng, MICE) and American Society of Civil Engineers (CEng, MASCE).
Senior Structural Engineer
Ricardo Breda has an Integrated Master in Civil Engineering (MEng) and a Master of Science (MSc) in Steel and Composite Structures from the University of Coimbra (FCTUC). Ricardo works as a Senior Structural Engineer at VN2R. Before joining VN2R, Ricardo worked in other renowned structural engineering designs offices and in a market-leading steelwork fabricator.
Throughout his career, Ricardo completed scheme designs, analysis, design and detailing of structures such as industrial buildings, multi-story buildings, hospitals, schools, airports, a sports stadium, pedestrian and road bridges.
Ricardo developed a particular interest in steel, composite and cold-formed steel structures, human-induced vibration assessments and software development for structural analysis and design.
Filipe Afonso has a Master degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP-IPP)
During his career, Filipe was involved in concept design, design and detailing of concrete, PT concrete, steel, composite structures and seismic design.
His portfolio includes industrial buildings, residential buildings, hospitals, mixed-use buildings, stainless steel equipment, liquid retaining structures, among others.
Juliana Mizumoto graduated as an Architect from the University of São Paulo (FAU-USP), Brazil. Currently, Juliana is a PhD candidate at the
Research Centre for Architecture, Urbanism and Design - University of Lisbon. Her research combines project management and Building Information Modelling. She also collaborates with the European Council on Computing in Construction (EC3).
Juliana works as a BIM manager at VN2R. Her past experience covers project coordination, BIM coordination for civil engineering, architectural offices and construction companies.
Throughout her career, Juliana developed expertise in BIM implementation projects.
